At RentMyBase, we believe that transparency is the foundation of trust in the rental market. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data when you use our crowdsourced rental map. Our primary goal is to provide deep market insights while maintaining the absolute anonymity of our contributors.

1. The Anonymity-First Approach

RentMyBase is designed to be usable without an account. We do not require you to provide your name, phone number, or social media login. We believe that by removing identity, we encourage more honest and accurate data sharing from the community.

2. Data Collection and Usage

We only collect data that is essential for the functionality of the platform:

• Rent Contribution Data: When you "Pin a Rent," we collect the monthly rent, security deposit, BHK configuration, furnishing status, and building name. This data is aggregated to show market trends.
• Location Data: We collect coordinates for the property pin. To protect your specific privacy, these coordinates are never stored at their exact tapping point (see "Artificial Rounding" below).
• Contact Information (Optional): If you choose to list a property or find a flatmate, you may provide a contact method. This is stored with client-side encryption and obfuscation to prevent automated bot harvesting.
• Review Data: One-line reviews and comments are public. Users are cautioned not to include personally identifiable information (PII) in these sections.

3. Zero Data Sharing Policy

We do not share, sell, or rent your personal data to any third parties, advertisers, or outside organizations. Your information is used strictly to power the platform's matching and insight features. Our commitment is to the community, not to data brokers.

3. Artificial Coordinate Rounding

To ensure that a rent pin cannot be traced to a specific doorstep or apartment number, our system applies an automated "fuzzing" algorithm to all submitted coordinates. Every pin displayed on the public map is shifted by a random radius (typically 50-150 meters). We prioritize "Area Accuracy" over "Point Precision."

4. Security and Anti-Spam Measures

To maintain the integrity of our data and prevent malicious manipulation:

• IP Hashing: We use a one-way SHA-256 cryptographic hash of your IP address to enforce daily submission limits. We cannot reverse this hash to find your real IP address.
• Email Obfuscation: For direct owner listings, email addresses are processed through a modern obfuscation script that makes them unreadable to most scrapers while remaining accessible to human users.
• Proximity Locking: To prevent spam and ensure genuine local interactions, contact details (WhatsApp/Phone) are only visible to users currently within 8km of the listing's coordinates.

5. Data Retention

Rental data is stored indefinitely to Provide historical price trends for the community. However, specific contact data (like flatmate seeker emails) can be requested for removal or is automatically archived after 90 days of inactivity.

6. User Rights and Controls

As an anonymous user, you have the right to request the deletion of a pin you created if you can verify ownership (e.g., via the verification email sent at the time of creation). Since we do not store traditional user accounts, we cannot "export" data in a person-specific manner as we do not know who you are.

7. Policy Updates

We may update this policy as we introduce new features like "Neighborhood Alerts" or "Owner Verification." The "Last Updated" date at the top will reflect these changes.
